Pioneer Festival

The Pioneer Festival in Florida — a homesteading-focused event — needed a brand identity that could anchor their event materials, stand out among other Florida festivals, and incorporate specific visual elements meaningful to the festival: orange blossoms, a rooster, and a sunburst.
Florida festival brands tend to cluster around the same visual territory — green fields, farm animals, pastoral stock imagery. The Pioneer Festival wanted to steer away from that generic farm aesthetic while still feeling authentic to the homesteading community. The logo also had a real practical constraint: the illustrated complexity had to print cleanly across all formats from small badges to large banners.
A review of other festivals in the region confirmed the visual clichés to avoid: cows, generic farm fields, forest greens in predictable combinations. The opportunity was to honor the homesteading spirit with illustration that felt crafted and specific rather than generic.
Multiple ideation rounds in Adobe Fresco explored different combinations of the three required elements — orange blossoms, rooster, sunburst. Early directions were heading in the right direction conceptually but had printability and readability issues at small sizes. The final version prints cleanly at any scale, reads clearly at a glance, and lets the symbolism breathe without feeling crowded.
The final Pioneer Festival brand went through significant ideation before landing on a version that solved both the visual and practical requirements — the right personality at the right scale, with all three meaningful elements integrated cleanly.
